If you have been to Hong Kong’s Central, you may have noticed the popular The Cupping Room along Cochrane Street, which is its flagship store located near Mid-levels.
The good news for coffee lovers: The Cupping Room Coffee Roasters has opened in Singapore at Takashimaya.
They are currently in the soft-launch stage, and the official opening with fuller menu is expected to be on the 10th of October.
The Cupping Room in Hong Kong is known for its good coffee and Australian-inspired café brunch fare.
There are outlets at Sheung Wan (Queen’s Road Central), Wan Chai (Swatow Street) with a roastery at Po Hing Fong. I had been to both the Central and Wan Chai branches, and loved its offerings.
They serve up espresso-based drinks using their House Blend; though are also known for offering single origin coffee beans from Kenya, Ethiopia, Colombia, Peru, and Rwanda.
The Attaboy is the house blend using a special blend of beans from Ethiopia and Colombia, with chocolate, citrus and blackberry notes.
The coffee I had in Hong Kong was decent, reminded me of the good ones in Australia, though slightly on the acidic side.
Over in Singapore, available options are Espresso ($4), White ($5 for 4oz, $6 for 9oz), Iced White ($6.50), Mocha ($6.50), Iced Mocha ($7) and Single Origin Filter Coffee ($8).
I had the smaller cup of White, and thought that the acidity level could be on the stronger side for the Singapore palate. Perhaps next time I would order a larger cup or iced version with more milk to balance off.
For the soft launch, there is a small selection of pastries and light bites offered such as Hazelnut Brownie ($5), Banana Bread ($5), Kouign Amann ($7) and Pain Au Chocolate ($6.50)
